Im a smoker and Im starting to get concerned about my health.
-If I believe that smoking is not harmful to me, will that be true?
-If that cannot be true, how can I heal my body so that it is as though I've never touched a cigarette?

Hi LivNoelle,

are you making connections between your current health and your smoking because if that is the case maybe smoking is bad for your health. Or are you just becoming sensitive to current talk and knowledge about connections between smoking and health, if that is all, you can break those connections and make new ones of your own.

Smoke is not a natural food that the body needs, but then we have two appetites as humans, the physical appetite which feeds our physical body and the emotional appetite that feeds our emotions. The body needs good foods, vitamins, minerals, and preferably fresh fruits and vegetables. But our bodies can also assimilate a lot of 'non food' treats or " recreational treats" that help us to be happy.

So my advice is give your body all it needs nutritionally so that you are 'healthy' and then you can smoke if you want and it wont harm you. And when your body is healthy and you are happy you may no longer need the "treat" of a cigarette ! Because the cigarette is an 'emotional' food for an emotional hunger.

Thanks so much for your answer. I feel wonderful right now but Im always hearing how bad it is to smoke. I do feel badly about smoking sometimes, like Im disrespecting my body, but it feels so good to smoke. Im going to believe that smoking is good for my soul and does nothing to my body. And maybe you're right, maybe one day I wont want it anymore!

I cannot agree with the post from genevieve.
And I am a smoker. Physical realities cannot be willed away. Many smoke for years and years and suffer no ill effects.
Others contract cancers and lung disease. Will you?-no one can say. but there is not a health care worker on the planet, who would recommend smoking. There is a certain logic which dictates that if you believe bad will happen-that it will.
But there is nothing to suggest that thinking nothing bad will happen if you simply think it won't with a physical product known to do harm. Should you quit-everyone should. But sometimes the need for something out ways the harm it might do.
That is a question only you can decide. As for healing your body-if you quit, and you are disease free. The damage done will dissapate naturally. _ I wish you all the best!

Lori that's a great thing to do. (posting a list of people who live a long time) I completely believe that smokers only get sick because they worry about getting sick from smoking. Even with all the cancerous crap that cigarette manufacturers stick in smokes, I think our intentions are more powerful, if we choose to keep that willpower a finely tuned muscle.

I only quit because I was hiding out behind the house away from my kids. I felt shame, and I'll be damned if I'm going to keep shaming myself 10 times a day.

I did one EFT session, and quit 2 weeks later, painlessly. I still think about enjoying them, and even had ONE over the summer. But I'm not going back because of how it felt. That was Aug 08

So if it feels good, do it. But if it doesn't feel good (only you know that) then there's your answer.

I was talking to a couple of friends in British Columbia and they smoke a few times a day. I asked them how they could handle going on long flights without needing a cigarette and they said they never felt any crazy cravings. They just smoked to relax and they're firm believers in LOA.

In that same regard, as I was flying home my flight was delayed for 3 hours. A guy sat near me in the airport and started screaming "I'M GOING TO SHOOT MYSELF! I'M GOING TO KILL MYSELF! I'M NOT GOING TO MAKE IT! I'M GOING TO SHOOT MYSELF AND DIE BEFORE I LEAVE THIS AIRPORT!" Why? Because he was not allowed to smoke in the airport. I walked over to him and I allowed him to vent to me in order to calm him down. It worked and he thanked me for calming him down, but he still kept talking about how he wished he could have a cigarette b/c he felt like shooting himself.

In a nearby seat, my brother's orthopedic doctor was sitting nearby and he leaned over and said, "Sir, can you please stop talking about shooting yourself? You might cause the boarding agents to call the TSA and delay the plane even longer." He finally fell silent, sneaked into an airplane bathroom, and took a few quick puffs before walking back to his seat. I think in his case he needs to stop smoking b/c it's more of an addiction and less of a relaxing tool.

It's interesting to read about the friends who smoke a few time a day. I do that sometimes. I go in streaks -- I'll have two to four cigarettes a day, and then I'll just run out and go for a while because they won't be so much fun anymore, and then later I'll pick them back up again...and either way, I'm fine.

Really? That's very interesting to hear. I told them about the guy at the airport and one of them sent me a message back saying that they heard from another LOAer that the reason why cigarettes seem more addicting is because in the U.S. there is supposedly more nicotine and/or additives than in Canada. However, I don't know the source of that information.

Maybe it has something to do with LOA? We know we're in control and it doesn't have to control us. Or, maybe some people are more prone to addiction than others? He does live in the south and on a list I recently found the state he lives in is ranked near the very bottom of the "Happiest States By Ranking".

As a smoker this has been an issue with me for sometime. Everyone tells me to quit, but I (for some reason)
enjoy smoking and haven't been willing to make the break--again. (Been there, done that already a few times and each time is harder)

Someone said this to me today as I was standing outside smoking--
"I wish you would hurry up and get lung cancer and get it over with".

What do you say to a non-smoker who tells you this? Quit, Cry, or Get Mad

Wow, I'm a non-smoker and seriously that's harsh. I probably would've said, "I wish you would jump off a building and get it over with." It sounds like they're not getting enough fiber.

Say, "Why, thanks! And what kind of cancer would you like to have so you can get it over with, too?"

Affirm for yourself why you enjoy it, and let the naysayers wreak misery upon themselves, because they are only making THEMSELVES miserable about your smoking. Don't let THEIR misery become yours.

Mary Jo,

you really are talking straight to my heart now, because I trained as a Hypnotherapist and helped many people to give up smoking. But I really hate the smell of smoke myself, so I was shocked when my daughter at 14 started smoking. At first I thought it was a reaction to me and what I was doing. I really wanted her to stop but because I was practicing LOA, I no longer had the old fuel of 'its bad for you' to play around with. And my daughter oftens says to me, but I can give it up whenever I want or I can get you to do a hypnosis session !

See my dilemma !

But her smoking has made me have to face squarely whether or not I believe in LOA and what EsterHick/Abraham says that 'nothing can harm us except our thoughts and feelings". And just as you say, I am the only one who "suffers" as a result of my daughters smoking, I am the one who feels, 'pain' and 'fear' and 'suffering', so if anyone were to get sick as a result of her smoking it would be me. And of course, I AM deciding that I will not ever get sick again, been there, did that, and learned the lessons.

The only concession I give myself at home, is that I say "no smoking in the house', that gives me a smoke free environment and my daughter is happy to oblige and smokes in the garden.

But what I do worry about is "I am responsible for myself", and I 'feel' responsible for my daughter because of her young age, but I cannot manifest for her, all I can do is teach her and guide her to understanding the LOA, so that she can protect herself from ill-nesses and dis-eases, and from then on it is up to her. I LOVE her and will always send her healing vibes when I think she is a bit down and I always try to hold her in my mind as a picture of Health and Vitality.

"When I was 12 and dealing with grief, I figured out that I could be happy on my own, regardless of those around me. As I got a little older, I’d almost stopped believing in it. I just wanted to say thank you for reminding me, as well as enriching the concept so much further. I already feel so much more excited about day to day life. I'll be recommending your book to everyone I know, and keeping mine by my bed to read when I need another reminder." Many thanks, Jocelyn
