- What are your Powerful Intentions?
- My powerful intentions are to help Makueni Village (Kenya) people to overcome spreading of malaria. Malaria is a deadly diseas which is spread by mosquitoes.
I have teamed up with a group of women in Maryland to raise funds to buy mosquito nets for Makueni people.
I am leading a Makueni Mosquito Net project and I am inviting any one willing to assist.
Makueni Mosquito Net is a Makueni Sisters project dedicated to providing insecticide treated bed nets to children and pregnant mothers in Makueni, Kenya to prevent malaria infections and deaths. The project began in 2007. Our project efforts involve various non-profit organizations working with Makueni Sisters with a common goal.
Unlike larger non-profits, since we are completely volunteer run and do not take salaries, with our project you know exactly where your donation is going and can be assured that 100% of every dollar donated will benefit a child by providing him or her with a long lasting insecticide treated bed net.
2008 will be our first year of net distributions and we will target two thousand of the poorest and most marginalized households in the Makueni region will be receiving long lasting nets to protect them from malaria infection. All donations to this project are completely tax deductible and 100% of the funds donated for this project go directly to purchasing and transporting insecticide treated bed nets (ITNS).
Each net costs only $15 a piece; this includes both the net price and the cost of transporting and distributing each net. The sad and staggering fact is that in Kenya, every year, over 900 children die needlessly from this completely preventable disease. More children die from malaria then any other disease in the world. So how can you help? Donate, hold a fundraiser, and raise awareness. Together we can eradicate malaria, one child and one mosquito bed net at a time.
Malaria is a serious health problem in developing countries. It is leading cause of mortality and morbidity. There are approximately 2.7 million annual deaths; roughly twice as many as AIDS. Malaria is a growing concern as treatment is becoming less effective and alternate drugs are becoming less affordable.
Once the nets are distributed, the project will be evaluated every year to see the effects of net distribution. Also to ensure that the nets are being used and that they are being used properly
